ALPINE SKIING
A lot of effort was needed to win a medal in the women’s giant slalom. It had not been easy after the date postponements and the difficulties due to the wind. Today Federica Brignone has achieved a great result by winning the bronze medal. After a first round with the Italian athletes in the top ranks with Manuela Moelgg in 1st place, Federica Brignone (Mezzelani GMT) in 3rd and Marta Bassino in 5th place, the outcome in the second trial was not as favourable.
Sofia Goggia, already in 10th place after the first race, was again unable to find a good rhythm in the second run, ending in 11th place (2:21.80) and Marta and Manuela were unable to perform at their best in the final trial, ending respectively in 5th (2:20.69) and 8th (2:21.20) place. The race was won by the American Shifrin (2:20.02) followed by the Norwegian Mowinckel (2:20.41). Federica Brignone came in 3rd place with 2:20.48.
