The Prime Minister, Matteo Renzi, phoned CONI's President, Giovanni Malagò, this morning and congratulated him on the Italian team's performance in Sochi and offered his own words of encouragement for the final races of the Olympic Winter Games. During the call, Malagò handed the phone to the short track multi-medalist, Arianna Fontana, whom the Premier praised for the medals she has won, and expressed his delight at her having been chosen as the flag bearer for the Closing Ceremony. Renzi's final words to Malagò and the champion were: "I look forward to welcoming you on your return to Italy."​
