National Board Press Release. Bid for Rome 2024 unanimously ratified

ConsiglioThe 240th National Board of CONI met today at the Auditorium of the Italian Pavilion at the EXPO in Milan, to discuss the following agenda:

 

1) Approval of the minutes of the meeting held on 29 April 2015: The minutes were unanimously approved.

 

2) Rome 2024: Following the approval of the motion on the candidature of Rome to host the XXXII Olympic and XVII Paralympic Summer Games of 2024 by the Assemblea Capitolina, President Malagò recalled that the CONI committee that met in the morning also formally approved the nomination. The National Board was attended, among others, by the mayor of Rome, Ignazio Marino, who emphasized the importance of the solid vote of the Assembly and the extraordinary significance of the Olympic Games as a vehicle for urban and value promotion. Marino recalled the efforts made to meet the next targets for the improvement of the city and the success of the Olympic challenge through essential teamwork. The President of the Organizing Committee of Rome 2024, Luca di Montezemolo, took the floor noting the importance of considering this extraordinary opportunity as a sports celebration, designed to highlight the centrality of the athletes, as in Rome '60, when Olympic champions became real, timeless idols. Montezemolo, who also celebrated the beauty, history and charm of the city's cultural heritage, revealed that a benchmarking exercise was carried out in three particular Olympic Games: Barcelona, ​​Sydney and London. In the end, unity was a decisive factor in the choice of the Olympic host. Franco Carraro (IOC) also intervened on this topic. The decision on the bid of the city of Rome was unanimously approved (64 votes out of 64) at 15:54.

 

3) Communications of the President: The President remembered the athletes who have passed away in recent weeks and applauded the significant sport results achieved in the same period. Malagò then congratulated Fabio Sturani and Eugenio Giani on their new political assignments and then listed the gratifying results of Italy in the European Games in Baku: Alessio Foconi and Petra Zublasing were listed as potential candidates for the role of continental athletes. The President then spoke of his meetings with President Renzi and the Government on the Sport mandate and with the Ministry of Health on the issue of non-competitive medical certificates. The ISTAT-Federations issue was taken to the Supreme Court, while Costa Brava Clube, between Barra da Tijuca and Sao Conrado, was officially named as the location of Casa Italia for the Games in Rio. Malagò also wanted to celebrate the visit of President Bach during the presentation of the Onesti Award and the awarding of the Golden Star for Sporting Merit to the new President of Federhockey, Sergio Mignardi. Also speaking at the meeting were: Giovanni Petrucci (Basketball) and Sergio Mignardi (Hockey). The National Board was attended, among others, also by the Prefect of Milan, Francesco Paolo Tronca.

 

4) Administrative Affairs and CONI Budget: The deliberation regarding the 1st CONI 2015 Budget Reformulation was passed unanimously.

 

Having nothing else to discuss, the National Board was closed at 16.20.
